Last Epoch Dungeons Explained: Keys and Rewards

Last Epoch has three dungeons: Lightless Arbor, Soulfire Bastion, and Temporal Sanctum. Each needs its own key, has four tiers, and ends in a boss with exclusive uniques plus one signature reward: the Vaults of Uncertain Fate, the Soul Gambler, and the Eternity Cache for crafting Legendaries.

  • Three dungeons, three keys, three end rewards: gold gambling, Soul gambling, and Legendary crafting.
  • Keys drop most reliably from Monolith Timeline bosses; Lightless Arbor can also refund its own key.
  • Death ends the run unless you spend a spare key to continue where you fell.

The Three Dungeons at a Glance

Dungeon Key Boss Signature reward
Lightless Arbor Lightless Arbor Key The Mountain Beneath Vaults of Uncertain Fate, spend gold to raise vault loot
Soulfire Bastion Soulfire Bastion Key Fire Lich Cremorus Soul Gambler, spend Souls gathered inside on gambled items
Temporal Sanctum Temporal Sanctum Key Chronomancer Julra Eternity Cache, fuse a Unique with Legendary Potential and an Exalted into a Legendary

Each dungeon also drops boss-exclusive uniques that cannot be found elsewhere, and some of those uniques only appear on higher tiers. If you are still working through the endgame loop of timelines and blessings, read the Monolith of Fate guide first, because key farming happens there.

Where Each Entrance Sits

Every dungeon has a fixed entrance in the campaign, and you must walk to it once before fast travel unlocks. Each dungeon also exits into a later campaign zone, so experienced players use them as partial campaign skips on second characters.

Lightless Arbor sits between the Council Chambers and the Cultist Camp in the Welryn region of the Ruined Era. Head straight north from The Surface waypoint to find the path. It exits into the Corrupted Lake, where a Time Rift jumps ahead to the Risen Lake in the Imperial Era.

Soulfire Bastion sits between the Welryn and Theitma regions of the Imperial Era, north of the Risen Lake. Head east from the Risen Lake waypoint to the Ruins of Etendell, then head north. It exits into Kolheim Pass in the Divine Era.

Temporal Sanctum sits in the Ruined Coast region of the Ruined Era, which connects to no other Ruined Era zone. Reach it by traveling to the Shining Cove in the Imperial Era, then taking the Time Rift to the east into the Ruined Coast. It exits into the Radiant Dunes in the Divine Era of Maj'Elka.

Dungeons hit harder than campaign zones of the same level, so the skip route suits characters with crafted leveling gear rather than fresh first runs. For the order of the zones these entrances sit in, see the campaign boss roadmap.

Keys: What Opens Each Door and Where Keys Drop

Each dungeon takes exactly one key per entry, and the key is consumed on use: Lightless Arbor Key, Soulfire Bastion Key, or Temporal Sanctum Key. There is no shared or universal dungeon key.

Keys drop from several sources:

  • Random loot from enemies in zones above the lowest tier level of the dungeon you want to run.
  • Monolith Timeline bosses, which is the recommended farm. Drop chance rises with item rarity, and at high rarity bosses often drop several keys at once.
  • The Arena of Champions, through one selectable modifier, though it offers a single key at low odds.
  • Weaver Tree nodes that raise dungeon key drop chances while running Monolith content.
  • The Vaults of Uncertain Fate inside Lightless Arbor, which can pay out Lightless Arbor Keys. This is the only dungeon that can drop its own entry key, so chained Arbor runs are possible with luck.

Since Patch 1.2, dungeons also grant idol slots and passive points on first completion, which makes the campaign-skip route faster than before. If you are missing points after rushing, the passive point quests list shows the fastest pickup route.

Farm keys where you already farm stability

Run Monolith Timelines back to back instead of target-farming one zone. Stability farming kills the same monsters that can drop keys, Timeline bosses pay out keys on top, and you progress blessings at the same time. The blessings list helps you pick while the keys pile up.

Tiers, Doors, and Death Rules

Every dungeon has four difficulty tiers. Higher tiers raise the area level, rotate in a daily bonus reward, and gate certain boss uniques behind the upper tiers. Published area levels per tier are:

Dungeon Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Tier 4
Lightless Arbor 20 65 88 100
Soulfire Bastion 45 75 92 100
Temporal Sanctum 55 80 95 100

Read the tier panel in game before queueing, since balance patches can shift these numbers. Higher tiers of Temporal Sanctum also accept higher-level uniques into the Eternity Cache.

Inside, every dungeon follows the same layout: two maps, then the boss arena. Each map offers two exit doors, and each door carries its own modifier pairing bonus rewards against stronger and tougher monsters. The two doors on a floor are rarely identical, so read both before choosing. A door that boosts exactly what your build cannot handle is a good reason to walk to the other one.

Death rules are strict. Dying at any point ends the attempt and sends you back to the End of Time with progress lost. The one exception: if you hold another key for the same dungeon, you can spend it to buy back into the same attempt instead of restarting. Every spare key in your stash is one more life for that run.

Two optional consumables modify runs. The Portal Charm teleports you straight to the boss and skips both maps. The Scale Charm fills the dungeon with extra Loot Lizards. Both drop as random loot or can be bought from the Black Market Key Trader in Maj'Elka for three dungeon keys each.

Check the door before you click it

Door modifiers scale monster damage and health alongside the reward bonus. On Tier 3 and Tier 4 the wrong door can end a run faster than the boss does. If neither door suits your build, backtrack to the other door spawn rather than forcing it.

Each Reward, in Practical Terms

Temporal Sanctum: the Eternity Cache and Legendaries

Temporal Sanctum is the reason most builds run dungeons at all. Its dungeon skill, Temporal Shift, flips you between two timelines at will to bypass blocked paths, uncover hidden doors, and dodge boss mechanics. The end reward, the Eternity Cache, merges a Unique that has Legendary Potential with an Exalted item of the same base type, moving a number of the Exalted affixes onto the Unique and producing a Legendary.

Because the output depends on both inputs, the real cost of a Legendary is the Exalted base, not the key. Farm the base first through crafting and Monolith drops, then spend the key when both pieces are ready. The crafting and Forging Potential guide explains how to prepare Exalted items worth sealing. Julra also drops her own uniques: Julra's Stardial, Somnia, Julra's Obsession, and Vessel of Strife.

Soulfire Bastion: Souls and the Soul Gambler

Soulfire Bastion revolves around Souls. Enemies inside drop Souls, and the dungeon skill, Soulfire Shield, spends Souls to swap between fire and necrotic damage immunity. After the boss, the Soul Gambler lets you spend leftover Souls on gambled items, and the door modifiers you picked along the way shape how strong that inventory is. Some door modifiers produce very strong Gambler stock, which is why door choice matters more here than in the other two dungeons.

Its boss, Fire Lich Cremorus, drops Ashes of Mortality, Lich's Envy, Immolator's Oblation, and Pyre of Affliction. Run this dungeon when you want volume: many rolls on slots the Gambler covers, rather than one crafted showpiece.

Lightless Arbor: Gold In, Vault Loot Out

Lightless Arbor is the gold sink. Its dungeon mechanic, Burning Amber, lights the ground around it. Enemies outside the light deal far more damage and take far less, and the Amber also destroys the Pyres blocking progress. The boss, The Mountain Beneath, drops Peak of the Mountain, Foot of the Mountain, Face of the Mountain, and Core of the Mountain.

The end reward, the Vaults of Uncertain Fate, offers a menu of modifiers you buy with gold to raise the value of the vault chests. Costs climb with each modifier picked, and the number of picks is limited, so bring a full purse: entering rich and leaving poor is the intended loop. This is also the only dungeon that can hand you back its own key, which keeps Arbor chains alive when the vaults cooperate.

When your gear stalls between dungeon tiers, the usual fix is corruption and blessings rather than more keys. The corruption push guide covers the difficulty dial that moves drops forward. The game itself is on Steam, where the store page tracks the current season and patch notes.

FAQ

Which dungeon should I run first? Lightless Arbor at Tier 1 opens earliest at area level 20 and teaches the two-map plus boss structure with the gentlest entry. Save Temporal Sanctum until you own a Unique with Legendary Potential and a matching Exalted base worth fusing.

How do I get more dungeon keys? Clear Monolith Timelines and kill the Timeline bosses with as much item rarity as you can equip. Keys also drop from ordinary enemies above each dungeon's minimum level, from the Arena of Champions modifier, and from Weaver Tree key nodes.

What happens if I die inside a dungeon? The attempt ends and you return to the End of Time. If you carry a spare key for the same dungeon, you can spend it to resume the attempt instead of starting over.

Can I use dungeons to skip the campaign? Yes, each dungeon exits into a later zone than its entrance, which lets alternate characters jump forward. Since Patch 1.2 the first clear also grants idol slots and passive points, so the skip no longer costs you character power.
