How to unlock the Monolith, what timelines, echoes, stability and corruption actually do, and the route to Empowered timelines.
Last Epoch Monolith of Fate: Your First Week Route
You get in through the Nexus panel, the activity window Eleventh Hour Games added in Patch 1.5. It lives in Traveler's Rest and on your world map, and it now lets you change Timelines without leaving the Monolith. The loop is short: enter a Timeline, run its Quest Echoes, conquer it, take a Blessing, new Timelines unlock. What stalls new players is Stability, and the end of one-Echo farming.

Season 5, Rage of the Frostborn, launched October 1, 2026 with Patch 1.5; Hotfix 1.5.1.1 is current as of October 3, 2026. Briefing first: the Season 5 overview.
How to Unlock and Enter the Monolith of Fate
Patch 1.5 added an activity panel that selects and views Endgame activities, Timelines, Dungeons, and Faction information, reachable from Traveler's Rest and your world map. Open it, pick a Timeline, walk in. Since 1.5 the same panel switches Timelines from inside the Monolith.
Two details trip people up. Traveler's Rest is the hub 1.5 renamed from Echo of the World, so older guides point you at a place with no longer any name. And an unlocked Timeline stays greyed out, which is progression, not a bug: the official endgame page warns your decisions may alter fate and change which Timelines are unveiled.
Nothing craftable sits in front of the Monolith: no key, no vendor, no currency in the current notes. The only gate is Timeline unlocks.

The Loop in Three Sentences
Pursuing certain Quest Echoes will lead to conquering the Timeline which will unlock access to new Timelines.
Conquering pays separately: three Blessings providing permanent buffs inside and outside the Monolith. Officially listed examples are Winds of Fortune, 14% increased chance to drop uniques, and Grand Chaos of Lagon, 76% increase lightning damage. Because they work outside the Monolith, a Blessing is a permanent stat change.
Each Timeline closes on a Timeline Boss, confirmed rather than inferred: the 1.5 Circle of Fortune rework makes the rank 6 Eos slot trigger on "Defeat an Exiled Mage or Timeline Boss."
The notes say "Quest Echoes" in the plural and never give a per-Timeline number. Read the count off your own Echo Web.
The Terms, One Line Each
| Term | What it does |
|---|---|
| Echo | One self-contained run of an alternate event. |
| Quest Echo | Advances the Timeline objective, making it conquerable. |
| Timeline | A branch of history. Conquer it and new Timelines unlock. |
| Blessing | One of three permanent rewards for a conquered Timeline, active in and out of the Monolith. |
| Stability | The per-run clock inside an Echo. The Echo Web UI lists stability gains. |
| Corruption | The difficulty scalar on an Echo. Cleansed at a Sanctuary of Eterra, it cuts enemy damage and raises item rarity. |
| Empowered timeline | The harder content tier, home of Yrun's endgame version. |
| Weaver node | A permanent Monolith-only tree, 50 points, from Woven rank and Echoes. |
Guides call the per-run rules that change an Echo's objectives "echo modifiers." The Season 5 notes never use the phrase, so any list of modifiers with exact numbers is community-sourced unless the tooltip states it.
The Weaver Tree guide covers where those 50 points go.
Your First Week: Phase, Goal, Done When
| Phase | Goal | Done when |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Get through the door | Open the Nexus panel, enter any listed Timeline | You are inside an Echo and the Stability bar is visible |
| 2. Learn one Timeline | Run its Quest Echoes instead of hopping branches | The Choose Blessing panel opens |
| 3. Bank the Blessing | Take one of three, verify it outside the Monolith | The effect shows on your character in the open world |
| 4. Spread out | Sweep the Echo Web instead of looping one Echo | Your last ten runs are ten different Echoes |
| 5. Turn the dials | Raise Corruption at a Sanctuary; watch Morditas' Anger | Idol Altars stop arriving with one affix or none |
| 6. Chase the season objective | Run Rage of Morditas encounters inside the Monolith | Circle of Frozen Blood unlocks in your Echo Web |
Why You Can No Longer Farm One Echo
Entering an echo that has previously been attempted now provides significantly less XP and favor, in addition to the existing reductions to random encounters and loot.
This is to prevent a burden of optimal play being to spam run the same echo over and over (looking at you, Rune Prison Complex).
Work the Echo Web as a sweep. Unrun and partially run Echoes carry the XP and favor; completed ones still run, they just stop being your income. And re-date any farming advice: a route naming one "best" Echo as a permanent farm predates Patch 1.5.
Guides published before October 1, 2026 tell you to repeat one Echo indefinitely. Under the current build that is the lowest-value use of a session.
Stability: The Tradeoff Inside a Run
Official material treats Stability as a tracked value, not a published formula: the Echo Web UI lists stability gains, and patches 1.5 and 1.5.1 fixed display bugs around it. No drain table has been published, so learn the shape off your own bar.
- Objective chains pay; boss fights cost. Objectives advance Stability and fill the payout; a boss spends it for one drop. Clear the chain first, then decide.
- Survival overrides the math. If you cannot survive the chain, take the boss instead.
- Do not read a teammate's bar as yours. If bars differ in a group, check the party size and scaling rules first.
When to Move Up to Empowered Timelines
As of Hotfix 1.5.1.1 on October 3, 2026, no official 1.5, 1.5.1, or 1.5.1.1 post publishes the Empowered timeline unlock criteria. Anyone giving you a precise requirement list is reading a community source. Use these checks instead:
- Your items stalled, not your skill. 1.5 states Idol Altars drop with far fewer affixes before 150 Corruption, and none below level 50.
- You clear a Timeline Boss untouched. Idle Corruption and Anger plus a routine fight means the tier is below you.
- Morditas' Anger is at zero. Anger is the supported difficulty dial and you can freely soothe Morditas in the Nexus. Soothe it, stay trivial, move up.
- You want Yrun's endgame version, which Hotfix 1.5.1.1 confirms lives in Empowered Monoliths.
Empowered is not the Pinnacle. Demigod's Ascendance is a separate 400 Corruption gate, covered in the corruption guide.
Hotfix 1.5.1.1 also fixed Monolith boss Yrun spawning invisible damaging zones. An invisible zone deleting you on sight was a bug, not your build.
What Season 5 Changed, and Where RoM Fits
Patch 1.5 also added the Ubiquity of Rage Weaver node, which makes your Echoes more likely to contain Rage of Morditas encounters. The Patch 1.5 notes are the reference.
One player-reported difference flips where you should run the season's core encounter:
In monoliths they are very close to echo start, not the case during campaign. This should be looked at.
That is a player report, not a developer statement, and the same thread includes players who could not find one in every Echo. Treat it as a strong tendency: the Blood Crystal starting a Rage of Morditas encounter tends to sit near the Echo start inside the Monolith, while in the campaign it can land mid-map with too few enemies for Bloodrage charges. Morditas unlock progress is tied to Monolith encounters specifically, so that is the right place to run it. Charge ladder and rituals: the Rage of Morditas farming guide.

FAQ
Do I need to craft a key to enter the Monolith of Fate? No. Nothing in the Season 5 notes puts a craftable key or vendor in front of it. The Nexus panel is the entry, and Timeline unlocks are the only gate.
Why does the same Echo give me almost no XP now? Because you have run it before. Patch 1.5 made previously attempted Echoes give significantly less XP and favor.
Are Empowered timelines the same thing as the Pinnacle? No. The Pinnacle, Demigod's Ascendance, is a separate Woven Echo gated at 400 Corruption.
